Starmark Reference-Based Pricing Plan Designs Now Available in MI, MN and VA

Lake Forest, Ill. – Starmark®, the leader in self-funding for small groups, has introduced Healthy ChoicesSM referenced-based pricing plan designs in three more states -- Michigan, Minnesota and Virginia – for effective dates beginning in July 2017 and later.

The innovative employer-sponsored health benefit plan designs with stop-loss insurance from Trustmark® Life Insurance Company provide effective solutions for small to mid-size employers seeking to control health plan costs while providing members with freedom of provider choice*.

For most healthcare services, the plan designs use Medicare reimbursement rates and then increase the amount by a fixed percentage to establish a Reasonable Fee for covered services. (Percentages may vary by state and are outlined in the plan document.)**

With the additional three states, Starmark offers reference-based pricing plan designs in 46 states (and the District of Columbia).

Healthy Choices plan designs offer covered employees:
  • Freedom of provider choice without a PPO*;
  • Cost-saving services such as Teladoc®, which provides access to U.S.-board-certified doctors through video and phone consults; and Grand Rounds®, which provides medical second opinions at no additional cost; and
  • Healthcare Bluebook™, an online consumer tool delivering cost and quality transparency.

Teladoc, Grand Rounds and Healthcare Bluebook are not affiliates of Starmark or Trustmark® Life Insurance Company. Availability and services may vary by state for Teladoc. Healthcare Bluebook is not available in Washington.

* Except in the instance of organ transplants, where benefits are available when performed at a designated transplant facility, and specialty drugs, where benefits are available when provided by the designated specialty pharmacy as outlined in the plan document.

** Members are still responsible for satisfying the copays, deductibles, coinsurance and out-of-pocket limits in accordance with the employer-sponsored health benefit plan.
